LAC ROSE ...A SALTY WONDER
Without foam, the waves sail,
drop down and fall on the ultra-
saline shore. Crusts of salt don’t
affect pedestrians, so you are
safe. Its pink range will raise your
natural curiosity.
Lac Rose, also “Pink Lake” is
named after its unique colour. Its
salinity rivals that of the dead sea.
The local farmers who harvest
salt from this lake must coat their
skin with a special emollient so it
doesn’t burn from the salt content
of the water.
ESCO. Its famous Bridge Faidherbe, built
in 1865, connects it to the mainland.
In addition to its historical heritage, St.
Louis boasts an exceptional natural
environment. Near the city are also two
parks: the Bird Park of Djoudji (3rd bird
sanctuary in the world) and the Park de
la Langue de Barbarie.
St. Louis has become, in the last ten
years, a favourite tourist destination in
Senegal. Its long sandy beaches and
many hotels offer the opportunity to
relax and enjoy the sun and sands of
Senegal.
