Bank of Uganda
executive pays
working visit to
UBA House
A
delegation from Uganda’s
apex regulatory bank;
Bank of Uganda, led by Mr.
Benedict K. Ssekabira, Director
of Commercial Banking, paid
a working visit to UBA House, in
Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr. Ssekabira used the visit
to explain the wide ranging
regulatory reforms in the Ugandan
banking space, which include
changing the Financial Institutions
Act to allow for Agency Banking,
Bank Assurance, Credit Reference
Bureau and Islamic Banking.
Mr. Emeke Iweriebor, Chief
Executive Officer, UBA Central, East
and Southern Africa, received the
Bank of Uganda team. In his
brief remarks, Emeke Iweriebor
said that the bank is pleased
with the relationship between
the Bank of Uganda and UBA.
He reiterated UBA’s policy on
zero tolerance for regulatory
infractions.
Mr. Chikelu Oballum, Senior
Manager, Cross Border
Supervisory Group, Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN), who was
also on the Bank of Uganda
delegation, explained that
the CBN has been making
efforts to foster good working
relationships with regulatory
bodies in countries where
Nigerian banks have presence.

BA Cameroon has held a
prepaid card merchant
conference to drive aggressive
growth of its Prepaid Card market
share across all its affiliates.
Discussions centred on beating the
competition by synergizing card
merchant networks and promoting
a unified approach to market and
business acquisition across the 100
outlets of the Prepaid Card sales
network.
The conference also provided a
good opportunity to
evaluate and approve
a Merchant Framework
for the Prepaid Card as
well as discuss concerns
and market reaction to
the product after one
year of introducing it into
the Cameroon financial
market.
UBA Cameroon also
announced strategies
to boost product
acceptance and
awareness including new
channels such as web
acquisition, U-Mobile,
offsite ATMs and POS to
boost the card business
in Cameroon.
The attendees,
comprising several
executives from leading
MFIs and e-Products
Retail Networks,
welcomed the initiative
and pledged continuous
support in driving the
product penetration.
