Diary of the US-Africa Summit
T
he recently concluded US-Africa summit was highly suc-
cessful, resulting in US companies and institutions commit-
ting $37 billion investment into Africa, with $14 billion of it
being purely private sector deals.
UBA’s Board Chairman and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr.
Tony O. Elumelu, CON, and GMD/CEO, Phillips Oduoza were
both active participants at the summit, which attracted top
dignitaries from all over Africa, including the personal attend-
ance of President Obama and top functionaries of the US
government and private sector.
The pictures below capture some of the high-points of outing.
In an interview with Marie Toure of Africa24 TV, Mr. Elumelu
speaks on his expectations from the summit and his vision for
Africa, and also on Africapitalism - a development concept he
developed and is championing.
World Bank President Jim Kimmeets TOE, discusses African
entrepreneurship:
Mr Elumelu’s role in leading the African
private sector was evident throughout the summit as he
had several meetings with different world leaders. Top, in
all the discussions, was a focus on entrepreneurship as a
vehicle for rebuilding Africa. His argument was simple-En-
trepreneurs can do well for themselves and Africa by
building businesses that are profitable and sustainable-the
concept of “doing well while doing good”
One of the highlights of the US-Africa Leaders Summit was
the “Africa and U.S. Business Leaders Reception:
Strength-
ening Ties” hosted by Heirs Holdings. The event had in at-
tendance top dignitaries from both African and US busi-
ness community and government. In the picture on the

Mr. Oduoza, had several strate-
gic business sessions with top US
executives seeking to invest in the
huge emerging opportunities in Af-
rica. One of the meetings was with
America business magnate, finan-
cier and philanthropist Michael
Milken, Chairman, Milken Institute.
