award
UBA Kenya has announced a USD
10 million 5-year syndicated loan to
Kenya Power and Lighting Company.
This financing will be deployed by
Kenya Power in upgrading and
expansion of its power infrastructure
in readiness to evacuate the planned
additional 5000 Mw to be generated
by 2017.
UBA’s Managing Director, Mr. Isaac
Mwige expressed the Bank’s commit-
ment to the development of Kenya’s
Infrastructure.
Kenya Power Managing Director and
CEO, Dr. Ben Chumo, said the financ-
ing will help speed up the imple-
mentation of ongoing and planned
electricity projects in different parts of
the country.

African businessman and philanthro-
pist, Tony O. Elumelu has proposed a
new entrepreneur-led development
model for Africa at two high profile
events in Washington DC.
Mr. Elumelu, who is Chairman of
UBA and Founder, the Tony Elumelu
Foundation, spoke at a White House
event hosted by United States
President Barack Obama on May 11,
2015 to celebrate emerging entrepre-
neurs around the globe.

Ndiaye Sow has been named the
Best Leader/Manager ( Female) at
the 11th edition of the prestigious
Cauris d’Or awards which held at
King Fadh Palace in Dakar, Senegal
on Saturday, June 6, 2015.
The event which had in attendance
eminent personalities from the eco-
nomic, political and financial sec-
tors in Senegal is organised by the
Mouvement des Entreprises du
Sénégal (MDES).
The awards ceremony was aired live
on the national TV as well as other TV
stations in the country.
Mrs. Amie Sow dedicated the award
to the entire staff of UBA Senegal.
UBA has won the African Investor (Ai)
Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year
award.
The award was announced recent-
ly at the Ai CEO Infrastructure and
Sovereign Investment Summit in Cape
Town, South Africa.
Now in its 8th year, the highly sought-
after Ai Infrastructure Investment
Awards formally recognises achieve-
ments across the main infrastructure
sectors in Africa, and reward the insti-
tutions and personalities driving trans-
actions and improving the continent’s
infrastructure investment climate.
UBA was given the award for its signifi-
cant investment in social infrastructure
across the continent in building the
economic capacity of the communi-
ties in which it does its business.

During his remarks at the White House
event, Mr. Elumelu championed the
cause of African entrepreneurs as
the key drivers of transformation and
urged entrepreneurs to always think
long term.
Following on the White House event,
Mr. Elumelu delivered a lecture at
Georgetown University in Washington
DC on May 12, 2015 to large audience
made up of faculty and students.
