Children who grow up without fathers are
almost four times more likely to be poor
and are more likely to become teen parents.
Researchers believe the word “dad” is derived from a
child’s first sounds and this sound is nearly universal.

Picking a name was tricky and it took
several months before we decided.
In the end we chose Ademide Adam
Osidele. Baby shopping was also
high on the agenda and we ordered
everything imaginable like car seat,
clothes, diapers, feeding bottles, baby
wipes, baby car stickers, toys and
bassinet. We renovated the guest
room and turned it into a nursery
and the whole process helped me
appreciate that very soon another
human being would be joining our
family.
My son was born on March 21st, 2017
at around 10am and I remember
when I saw him for the first time.
Honestly I had no idea what to expect
when the nurse brought him in. He
was not crying at all, his skin was so
fair and his hair was full. His eyes were
closed and he looked perfect. I was so
happy and speechless and I could not
wait to hold him. My wife then came
in and she held him and we knew we
had experienced something magical.
He was finally here and now our family
had a new member. Everyone says he
looks like me but to be honest I don’t
see it. We share certain mannerisms
which I still find amazing but he is
his own man. I hope I can be a
great example and teach him to be
strong, kind, fearless, respectful and
independent.
He has been with us for around 7
weeks now and there are a lot of
short nights. My mom has moved in
and she has been a godsend, she
is definitely the best grandma in the
world. Being a father has also made
me appreciate my dad a lot more.
Fathers don’t really get the love
they deserve because the moms go
through most of the “hard Labour”
and breast feeding but dads need
love too. We are the support system,
the foundation that holds the family
together. I have definitely made an
effort to be very hands on so I put
in a shift as often as I can. I change
diapers, feed my son, play with him. It
is important for me to do these things
because I want our bond to be strong
and I don’t want to miss any magical
moments. Fatherhood has taught me
the importance of being selfless and it
is definitely my greatest achievement
so far.

A study shows that after having
kids a man is less likely to
engage in high-risk activities.
The tradition of “giving away” the bride arose
from the age-long belief that a female child is her
daddy’s property. A father ‘giving away his daughter’
implies that he is relinquishing control over her and
bestowing it on her husband who then takes on the
responsibilities of being her daddy.
The strongest factor in determining a child’s
future success at school is the father’s level
of education. Children are less likely to be
successful at school if their fathers failed to
achieve.
The dad determines
the child’s sex.
Whereas mothers
always pass on an X
chromosome, fathers pass
on either an X (female) or Y
(male) chromosome.
Studies show that children
whose
daddies
are
involved in their education
often perform better in
school, learn more, and
exhibit healthier behavior.
Dads who share home chores with their wives
tend to have more ambitious daughters with
more broad definitions of gender roles
