leading the Group’s corporate banking team in a highly
competitive African financial industry.
In a nutshell, what does corporate bank do?
Corporate Bank manages relationships with large corpo-
rates and conglomerates. This involves providing bespoke
solutions to their various and often peculiar needs. In doing
this, we seek to grow the bank’s market share in line with
our strategic intent of becoming a dominant player in the
industry; grow profitability; and provide retail and com-
mercial banking in the most cost effective clusters to exploit
as well as act as the centre of excellence in the segments
we play in.
Do you agree that corporate banking is the glamorous side
of banking?
Hmmmmmm... I have never thought of what we do as
“glamorous”. Interesting? – yes; fulfilling? – yes; glamorous –
I am trying hard to see how that fits!
However, we deal with companies that have millions of
Naira and dollars on the line with every business decision.
You have to be knowledgeable and instil confidence for
these companies to trust you with their business. Does that
