  70’s
The Hippie 70s
In the 70s, fashion trends were more widespread around the world as everyone had adopted the hippie look. This decade is known as the era of the flared pants and women and men alike were wearing them and still wear them to this day. It was also acceptable for professional women to wear pantsuits. T-shirts were no longer considered ‘inner wear’ and graphic t-shirts with popular slogans, sport teams became trendy. Tie-dye grew in popularity due to the shortage of raw materials and fabrics. Most African women started to move away from European hairstyles and straightening their hair, and began instead to rock natural ’fros’ and wearing statement necklaces and earrings to emphasise their beauty.
