The hip hop 90s
By the 90s, hip hop fashion was the main trend. Baggy pants, hats (bowler, snapback and baseball), and dungarees were fashionable for both men and women. Women were wearing a lot of slip dresses, crop and halter tops, and also wearing heavy makeup, thick lip liner and dark lipsticks. Young men tended to ‘sag’ their trousers, wear heavy shoes like timberland boots and also wear sport jerseys (basketball ‘throwback’ jerseys especially). It became very popular to have a shirt or jacket tied around your waist. The decade that popularized the dashiki with people even wearing dashiki suits to work. Brands such as Nike, Fubu, Reebok, Sean John, Rocawear and baby phat were favoured by youths all around the world.
