60’s
The Swinging 60s
The 60s brought a lot of fashion staples we still wear today. Though lengths started getting shorter in the 50s, the 60s brought about a radical change by introducing the ‘mini skirt’ which has remained a fashion staple to date. This was also the decade where casual fashion became more unisex as it was increasingly popular for women to wear trousers like capris with button down shirts. For men, this decade brought in the skinny tie and hats. Remember, the Irish hats and fedoras which became increasingly popular. It was around this time that the ‘oleku’ traditional wear became a fashion staple, women also started to mix western and traditional clothing by wearing a western style button down shirt with a wrapper.
Fun fact for the makeup lovers: False lashes became fashionable in this era and changed our lives forever.
