he corporate social responsibility
arm of the bank, UBA Foundation
continued to show commit-
ment to empowering and enabling
emerging African youth with the tools
needed to succeed. The Foundation
through its Read Africa and National
Essay Competition initiatives has
impacted lives of many young
Africans by bridging the literacy gap
and encouraging economic and
environmental sustainability.
Read Africa:
Conceived and introduced in 2011
by UBA Foundation, the Read Africa
initiative involves the provision of rec-
ommended literature for junior and
senior secondary school students
across the African continent. The
project is aimed at encouraging chil-
dren to improve their vocabulary and
communication skills through read-
ing. Through this initiative, the UBA
Foundation is helping rekindle the
dwindling reading culture amongst
African youths as they pursue their
education. Over a hundred thou-
sand books and educational mate-
rials have been donated to vari-
ous schools across Africa as UBA
Foundation continues to traverse the
continent, contributing positively to
the development of African youths.
