The Agricultural Sector
Cote d'Ivoire is a strong agricultural
country. Cocoa and coffee make up
75% of the land devoted to cash crops
with a predominance of cocoa (56%).
Thus Cote d’Ivoire is the world’s largest
producer of cocoa and third largest
producer of coffee.
Cotton, oil palm, cashew and rubber
occupy 23 % cultivated land areas.
Other cash crops (Coconut, banana
etc.) occupy only 2 % of cultivated
land.
The Mining and Oil Sector
The mining sector is experiencing a
resurgence Cote d’Ivoire. In addition
to manganese, other solid minerals
found in commercial quantity in Cote
d’Ivoire includes; gold, nickel, dia-
monds, iron, cobalt and tantalite. The
government has an ambitious plan to
achieve annual output of 21 tons of
gold, one million carats of diamonds,
24 million tons of iron.

Assinie,
one of the first contact points
between France and Ivory coast, third port of
the country as at 1907, now a seaside resort
east of Abidjan. The resort is a favourite
destination for wealthy inhabitants of
Abidjan for the weekend.
