E
douard de Montalivet, Head of our Represent-
ative Office in Paris, France, participated in The
MARSEILLE CASSIS, a 20km marathon and has
drawn four lessons to share with staff from the race.
The marathon is in its 35th year and involves a 20km
race with 13 km going uphill. It is a huge event that
usually attracts up to 15,000 runners. Edouard ran
the marathon wearing his UBA T-Shirt and finishing
the race in 1h 49 minutes.
Edouard says four philosophies drove him to the
finishing line;
Training is important in winning a race, just as it is
important in winning a deal.
In every race, there are several competitors just like
there are many competitors in banking. Training is
what gives you the cutting edge to beat your com-
petitors, and to reach your goal.
In a race, to be able to win, you need to maintain
your speed and improve on it, each mile. Same in
banking, you must maintain your service standards
and improve on it with each customer.
To get to the finish line in a race, you must endure
pain; deal with the changing weather, overcome
obstacles as you go uphill and still try to finish the
race, on time, ahead of competitors. This also
applies to work, where you must endure pressure,
stress, and show your efficiency and professional-
ism, to succeed in your assigned role.
Finally, he encourages everyone to; “Just do it, just
burn the flame!”
