Note

Who would I have chosen to be if God had given me a chance to decide on
this before I came to be born? Would that be Queen Nefertiti (Royal Women
of Valour, page 34), one of the women of Timbuktu (page 40) or perhaps a
modern day shero like some of our women to watch for 2021 (page 12)?

I don’t have to think very hard about this because as much as I admire these
women, I am very happy being just who I am. I always have been. I must
have chosen to be me if God indeed had asked that question before he sent
me here. I am happy I was born female. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It
is true that women are marginalised all over the world. It is true that women
sometimes suffer untold hardships and violations by virtue of their sex and that
we have a harder climb up the corporate ladder. It is true that the world is still
very far from gender equality. However, I prefer to look at the glass half full.

Imagine what it feels like to know that you will always be precluded from the
mystery of that monthly secret that binds us all together from girlhood. Not that
this is something all women want or need... But the fact is that men can never
be a part of that life changing spiritual experience. Men will not ever be able
to walk well in high heeled shoes but we can strut perfectly in brogues if we
desire to. Men will try, but their dishes will never warm the hearts of people like
that of a woman’s (When I wore the apron for my wife, page 88). They don’t
know it, but women rule the world (Who really runs the world? page 42) and
we know it but are silently confident about this fact.

This month of March, I challenge you to look forward and resolve to overcome
the obstacles. Imagine that those gender barriers do not exist. Just for this
month and we can deal with reality after that. Count your blessings and
number your strengths.

I am dedicating this edition to all girls, women and all the men who love and
appreciate us.
