Football is the most popular sport in Egypt. The Egyptian national football team, the ‘Pharaohs’, is the most accomplished African national football team, having taken home the African Cup of Nations title a total of seven times, including a three-peat performance in 2006, 2008 and 2010. The team is one of the few African national teams to have ever reached a single-digit FIFA ranking - 9th, in history, and this year, as Egypt hosts the tourna- ment, they are also touted to be one of the AFCON 2019 favourites.
