THE GREAT PYRAMIDS
Egypt’s austere pyramids and towering Pharaonic temples are awe-inspiring and remain a testament of human ingenuity and sheer strength. The oldest monument on the list of the Seven Wonders of the An- cient World, the Great Pyramid of Giza is a marvel of human engineering and con- struction; its sheer size and scale rivals any structure built within the last few centuries. It is estimated that 2.3 million stone blocks were used to build this magnificent edifice which has numerous internal passages and chambers that would have housed the Pharaoh’s granite sarcophagus and all the necessary goods for a fruitful jour- ney to the afterlife.
