ganda, officially the Republic of Uganda and also referred to as the Pearl
of Africa, is a landlocked country in East Africa bordered by Kenya, South
Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
Uganda is the world's second most populous landlocked country after Ethiopia.
The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria,
Africa’s largest lake and the 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world.
Uganda takes its name from Buganda,
the country’s most predominant king-
dom which encompasses a large por-
tion of the south of the country, includ-
ing the capital Kampala.
Beginning in 1894, the area was ruled
as a protectorate by the British, who
established administrative law across
the territory. Uganda gained inde-
pendence from Britain on October 9,
1962 as a Commonwealth realm with
