it could cause problems. Never wear a top with spaghetti
straps on its own. Generally, choose tops that keep your
shoulders and upper arms covered.
Professional doesn’t mean frumpy
You can show your feminine figure and still look professional.
Wear tailored tops. In fact, fitted tops make you look clean
and well put together. Boxy styles or oversized tops will make
you look frumpy, which can be just as inappropriate for the
office as overly sexy clothes can be. Wear tailored suits. You
do not need to completely deny your womanhood to fit in at
the office. A nice fitted skirt suit keeps you looking professional
and well put together.
Occasionally, dress to work in a dress
Many dresses are considered work appropriate, especially for
corporate casual dress codes. Look for simple A-line dresses
that have a knee-length skirt and a conservative neckline.
Avoid dresses with too many frills, short hems, or plunging
necklines.
Keep bottoms at or below the knee
Avoid shorts and mini-skirts. Dress up, rather than down even if
your office has a corporate casual dress code.
On the other hand, opt for knee-length skirts over maxi-skirts.
Maxi-skirts tend to camouflage your figure, making your
bottom half look boxy, but knee-length skirts are both flat-
tering and appropriate. If you really must wear a longer skirt,
consider a well-tailored skirt that hugs your curves even past
your knee.
Also, avoid slits that extend above the knee. If you do opt for
a longer skirt, a sleek black pencil skirt with a slit is a nice way
to add feminine detail without getting too inappropriate.
Stick with classic pumps
Closed-toe leather pumps with a 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) to 1 and
1/2 inch heel are the most appropriate. The safest, most
standard color options are black, brown, burgundy, and
navy.
Keep yourself looking well-groomed
Keep your hair and body washed, and your nails trimmed.
Minimize Your Accessories and Cosmetics
A little make-up can make you feel confident, and a few
well-chosen accessories can add a little bit of style and
personality to your attire. Avoid overdoing it, however. Leave
your heavy make-up for evening and your more decorative
accessories for casual and formal occasions
Match your foundation and concealer to your natural skin
color. Stick with light blushes that add a little rosiness to your
cheeks, while still looking natural.
Avoid dark, heavy mascara and heavy eyeliner. Instead, try
natural shades of liner. You can play with eye shadow a little,
but opt for lighter colors over bold shades. For instance, a
light pink shadow may look fine, but a hot pink shadow will
likely look inappropriate.
Opt for natural shades of lipstick over vibrant colors. Stick with
clear glosses and lipsticks that are one or two shades off from
your natural lip color. Avoid fire engine reds or bubblegum
pinks.
