SUCCESSION
PLANNING IN UBA
UBA has become a ready example of how global brands have
entrenched succession planning into their businesses. In 2010, follow-
ing the introduction of the tenure limit for bank CEOs, UBA was the
first to announce a successor to Mr. Tony Elumelu, who was the CEO
at the time.
Six years after, there is another smooth transition underway. Phillips
Oduoza, who succeeded Tony Elumelu in 2010 is set to handover
the reins of leadership at UBA to Mr. Kennedy Uzoka. Our lead article
examines best practices in succession planning and how UBA racks up
against best global practice. This would make an interesting read.
SELFIE’s are not just about pictures but also about management. Oliver
Alawuba, Regional CEO, Anglophone Africa, UBA Plc, shares some
insight on how UBA is using the SELFIE philosophy to build a bank of
the future. You are bound to find his interview highly engaging.
There is something new in the LKM. We are introducing a section;
“Meet the Entrepreneur” where we highlight business owners turning
their passions into profitable ventures. In this first edition, we talk to
Bolanle Austen-Peters, who turned a passion for Nigerian culture, food
and language into a profitable business.
In our ‘Country of Focus’ we take you on a flight to Ghana, through many
of the great tourist sites that have made the country a destination of
choice on the African continent.
Enjoy this exciting edition and do give us your feedback.
