that there are huge opportunities
in mobile banking. There are also
significant opportunities outside
the banking sector especially in
the mining sector, which makes up
80% of Guinea’s exports and 19%
of GDP. Also, Guinea is bordered
by six countries, which offers huge
opportunities in trade financing.
What are you doing to increase
your market share?
There are various strategies we are
putting in place to increase our
market share in the Guinean bank-
ing industry. First we have targeted
the top players in the major indus-
try to increase the volume and
value of business we do with them.
We are also leveraging our digital
banking platforms to provide mer-
chants with convenient payment
options and are also looking at
increasing our up country presence
in order to enable more Guineans
access to our unique banking offer-
ings.
In five years, how do you see UBA’s
position in Guinea?
In line with UBA Group Strategic
objective, we are committed to
position UBA Guinea as the number
one Bank in all key parameters,
mainly customer service quality,
deposit market share, PBT, digital
banking, trade and remittances.
What are the key things to expect
in the Guinean banking industry in
2016?
The year 2016 is expected to be
a take-off year for the banking
industry with the resumption of the
economic activities, following the
end of Ebola crisis and the ambi-
tious projects of the government.
This implies a huge competition to
capture the main benefits of the
economic policy of this 2nd term of
President Alpha Condé. Our target
is to attain the top 3 position in all
key parameters.
What is social life like in Guinea
and how do you relax after a hard
day’s work?
I rarely have time to really relax
because of the work load but all
the same I make time to relax usu-
ally in some spot where I can mix
with the very warm and friendly
people that Guineans are.
