Ladies’
guide to
Friday -
corporate
casual
By Amaka Agu
G
etting dressed for work is
relatively easy when you only
need to co-ordinate a suit with
a top and shoes. But what should you
wear on casual Fridays?
Here are a few tips on how to bridge
the gap between smart and casual,
and ‘dress down’ but still remain
professional.
Start by keeping one half of
your outfit smart, either by
wearing a well-pressed shirt
with an A-line skirt or pressed
trousers with a coloured top.
For some colour on a Friday, you
can never go wrong with local
fabric such as Ankara and other
traditional wear which can break
the norm of Monday – Thursday.
Please stay away from ‘clingy’
fabric such as chiffon and silk,
but most other traditional fabric
work.
Look for styles with a fly-front and
slight A-line but with no trendy
'creases' or patches. Crewneck
and V-neck tops are all classics
that can be worn with skirts or
trousers and a jacket.
Remember to avoid anything
too sporty including striped
polo shirts, rugby shirts and
anything with stripes down
the side. Avoid denim or denim
imitation items. Whilst most tops
are acceptable, try to avoid tops
with logos across the front.
If this is all sounds rather boring
and not dress-down at, all add
your own stamp of individuality
with details, accessories and
jewellery. Modest details on tops
such as a brooch or a corsage
can change your entire look
and take it to a whole new
level.
Fashion does not need to be
sacrificed if you choose your
accessories well. Try a bright
sequinned tote bag to liven
up your outfit and why
not add an eye-catching
necklace and bracelet
to keep things looking
contemporary.
