Intro
I
t was John D. Rockefeller, American business magnate and
philanthropist that said “Good leadership consists of showing
average people how to do the work of superior people.”
Transformational leadership is about how to make ordinary
people do extraordinary things. This edition of Lion King
Magazine (LKM) is devoted to transformational leadership.
It underlines the critical role that transformational leadership
can play in helping us achieve our Project Alpha goals.
We have chosen to deal with transformational leadership in
this edition because we are at an important juncture in our
quest for industry leadership under the Project Alpha initiative.
This is the penultimate year in that quest and as the GMD/
CEO emphasized in his editorial message, we are at half
time and there is a need to strategise for the second half
to consolidate on the gains of the first half and ensure we
achieve unfulfilled goals in the second half.
This edition is however not all about leadership. There is a
very interesting interview with Ben Odukwe, CEO, UBA Benin
Republic and another great and insightful interview with
Helen Brume, Divisional Head, Power, Infrastructure and
Project Finance. There is also an article on the all important
issue of “How to manage your money” and then the interest-
ing write up on “Cheating the Friday dress code”.
Healthy work-life balance is critical for busy executives. Please
be encouraged to read our selection of African movies while
hoping that you will take time to sit and watch some of them
with your family at home.
Whilst we have tried to keep the standards for the Lion King
magazine yet again, I must say that you will definitely enjoy
