An unforgivable faux pas
A
male marketing executive
walks into a prospective client’s
office to pitch for an account.
s he walks in, the first thing the client
observes is his ‘distasteful’ dressing.
The colour of his suit is too loud. His
shoes look unpolished and his white
shirt collar had turned brownish.
His appearance is a turn-off and gets
the client thinking, “He doesn’t look
smart... Perhaps, he is very poorly
paid... Can he really take care of my
bank account...”
Even before the marketing execu-
tive says a word, the client’s mind is
made up; he doesn’t want to open an
account that will be managed by this
man.
First impressions matter. People usu-
ally form an opinion about you within
the first few seconds based on your
appearance, body language and
dressing, and that opinion will proba-
bly never change. So, you must strive
to always make a good first impres-
sion since it sets the tone for every
new relationship.
