GREAT MOVIES
for the
entire family
BY AMAKA AGU
Forget R rated movies, 21+ (rem ember Robocop?), no
asking people to leave the room or waiting till the kids
are asleep, here is a collection of fun, entertaining and
educational movies that the whole family can enjoy.
1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
The definition of a film that’s too cool for school. Totally redefining
the much coveted ‘day off’ instead of staying in or finishing up
personal business or sitting on the couch all day sweating out a
cold/fever Matthew Broderick sets off for a tour of Chicago with
his girlfriend Mia Sara and best friend Alan Ruck. This movie is an
80s teen classic that the entire family would love.
2. High School Musical
The most effective way to get kids excited without
any form of sugar is Disney’s High School Musical.
Think glee without the cynicism, this high school love
story is the tale of Troy and Gabriella who meet at a
karaoke contest and bond over a love for music.
3. Superman
A real pioneer: the first big-budget comic
book adaptation. The effects (compared to
modern day epic superhero re-enactments)
may look a bit rocky now, but the movie is
still a lot of fun, with a proper romance at its
centre and a genuinely dastardly villain in
Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor.
4. The Incredibles
The incredible manages
the impossible in a fictional
cartoon about an action
hero family stuck in suburban
normality – by successfully
appealing to both adults and
children. Funny, poignant,
fast paced adventure for the
whole family to enjoy.
5. The Mask
Jim Carrey, the man of many
faces, thrills as the Mask in this
family hit. It’s vivid, funny and
enthralling - and as good as
Carrey ever got.
