Right fromhis primary school days,
he had always admired bankers
and executives of Insurance
companies. He loved corporate
dressing and looked forward to
being like them someday. This
influenced his choice of a career
when he was in the university.
Clement started his banking
career with UBA for 2 years,
moved on to Zenith Bank where
he spent 4 years before joining
Standard Trust Bank in 2000 as
a PCM and was thereafter,
appointed a BM in the same
year.
Being very skilled in the process of
business startup and turnaround,
through the course of his 18-year
banking experience, Clement
has set up several new branches
and turned around some ailing
businesses. He is a recipient of
several awards in the bank and
his rise in the banking ladder
eventually translated into his
appointment as Regional Director
in 2009 and subsequently CEO,
UBA Mozambique in October,
2010.
When asked about his impression
of
Mozambique,
Clement
Isikwe’s very good impression
of Mozambique was evident
in his belief that Mozambique
is a good country with great
potentials. Although the several
years of war experienced in the
country negatively affected the
growth process. The discovery
of some mineral resources and
the attendant huge investments
being
witnessed
presently
have put the country on an
accelerated growth.
As the CEO of our Mozambican
subsidiary,
Clement
rates
the
performance
of
UBA
Mozambique as very good
having broken-even in one year.
A feat which could be attributed
to the high deposit and revenue
growth in the country and the
outstanding customer service
delivery which has taken the
bank from a position of 24th in
November 2010 to 16th. “This is
a major achievement for us and
we intend to surpass this in the
coming months” he said. His
vision is to have UBAMozambique
becoming one of the top 5 banks
in the country in the next 5 years.
“The joy that comes with great
achievements” is one of his major
motivations for success. He loves
building great men and women
and aligning them with his vision.
This has constantly helped him in
building strong teams.
Clement Isikwe is not just a plain
workaholic. He is also an ideal
family man. He believes “a man
cannot succeed if his home front
is not in order. Consequently no
matter how busy I am, I always
strive to create time for my family.
I speak with them every time and
am involved in everything they
do. Any free time I have from
work is for my family”.
He likes to take his family out
whenever they visit Mozambique
to areas of interest. However,
when they are not around, he
uses the time to network with
high profile customers and
friends. His Sundays are mostly
dedicated to church activities.
He loves football, loves watching
high profile games and is a fan
of Manchester United though
Leonel Messi of Barcelona is his
favourite footballer.
Clement Isikwe would like to be
remembered as a man who
touched lives positively to the
glory of God; a man who helped
many discover their potentials. He
believes that a General is mostly
recognised by the number of
Generals he is able to produce.
“I want to build many great
Generals” Clement Isikwe said.
