AMIE SOW
RCEO, West Africa 2
I have worked at UBA for 7 years and I am presently the Regional CEO, West Africa 2. In the beginning I went through some challenges but the support of the Executive Management and my team helped me push through. I remind myself that discipline and focus ease your challeng- es and drive you to achieve more. What has further fuelled my passion on the job is my unique capability to see every- thing. Nothing goes unnoticed by me and every little detail works to achieve a bigger objective.
As a woman on top, you must remember, you will face a lot of different barriers but you must always be ready to rise above it all. I have also learnt to distinguish between being a woman and understanding that at work, I am a Manager. For me, I tell people self-confidence is truly important. When you are certain about yourself, you will be certain about a lot of other processes.
I wish UBA the best. 70 years is a long time and I know the years coming behind will continually skyrocket us to remain- ing at the top.
    KUBI MOMOH
Group Head, Risk Management
I used to cover group risk, but now I cover Africa and I joined UBA in 2006. You must love what you do. What I love about my job and what motivates me, has been my ability to do a lot of stuff. I started out in treasury and seeing how the bank has evolved, I am always very excited and impressed. I con- sider myself a nerd and my love for numbers helps ease the challenge of the job. Seeing that the bank is mostly about numbers, my passion is right at home on the job.
While the need and expansion for women has grown a lot over the years especially in our bank, we also must hold onto our support system. I think a work-life balance is essential for us as women, and as people who are primarily carers and home makers, it is very important that you have a super sup- portive network and reciprocate.
If you have to take care of your friend’s kids and the likes, do it. These moments where we exist in our multiplicity of char- acters help us grow and make us stronger and balanced to achieve more and do better in the workplace.
I wish UBA another 70 years and more, it has been a wonder- ful number of years. I am excited to see the evolution in the next 70 years and seeing how we have moved from paper to a bank that you can put in your pocket, I can’t wait to see what else is in the future for us!
