CHIOMA MANG
CEO, UBA Gabon
As a CEO, I am the face of UBA in Gabon, I call myself the Chief Operating Officer as well as the Chief Marketing Officer. It is in this capacity that I am all about ensuring the bank is strategically important not only in Gabon but across the CEMAC region and beyond Africa. Knowing how busy and committed my work requires me to be, I sustain myself with my faith in God and my passion for the job. Solving peo- ple’s problems is always at the top of my priorities and being effective at this job motivates me to do more.
Personally, I don’t think of my gender as a handicap. We achieve so much as women. The guiding prin- ciples to move forward especially to us as women should be 3C’s: Competence, Confidence and Communication. When all three are set in motion, you can achieve your goals no matter the hurdles. Also learn to make yourself available and be willing to take on opportunities. As much as the job is awe- some, sacrifice is in the forefront - other jobs we do as women must not weigh us down.
I have spent a good part of my youth and adult life at UBA. Over 20 years of my growth has been in the bank, so as I have evolved – I have also seen UBA grow, and so I say let us keep the energy going and more years of excellent service and expansion.
CINDY ANDERE-MBELA
Head, Corporate & Energy Banking, UBA Kenya
I have been working in UBA for about 4 and a half years, heading the Energy and Corporate banking in Kenya. I always try to have a positive, ‘Can-do-it’ attitude as it makes me see what seems impossible can actually be done. What motivates me would be achievement and results, and in this career results are everything.
As a woman, do not ever underestimate yourself as you can do so much more than you think. UBA is a bank that recognizes the importance of having women at the ‘table’. Surround yourself with ideas, people and goals that fuel you and your thoughts. Gender is never a hindrance. Do not segregate things! Remember, anything a man can do; a woman can do just as well.
My wish for the bank would be that there is a continu- ity of growth, I would love UBA to be in more countries in Africa and beyond Africa.
