ersonal Leadership is the leader-
ship of the self. It is the ability to
define a direction for your lead-
ership and life, and to move in that
direction with consistency and clarity.
This means you have to take time out
to ask yourself questions like: How is
my performance on the job or busi-
ness?; What are my goals and am I on
the path to achieving them?; What
actions do I need to take to achieve
Personal Leadership Exercises
1. Write down an Affirmation(s)
that
resonates strongly with you and stick
where you can see daily. On the wall
or in your notebook. What you let into
your mind rules your attitude towards
life.
2. Write down your GOAL(S).
What
is it that you planned to be when
you grow up? Henry Ford said that
‘Obstacles are those things you see
when you take your eyes off your
goal’. Sometimes the music of life
takes us dancing past the path to our
dreams. We need to see our goals
written down to remind us of ‘The
Plan’.
3. Write down 3 WHYs -
that are so
important you achieve your goal(s).
And 3 WHATs you need to take action
on in order to achieve your goal(s).
4. One of the killers of personal growth is
procrastination.
Have you noticed that
you keep putting things off? Kick it out
the door and like NIKE says ‘Just DO IT’.
5. Don’t wait for your employer to send
you for trainings.
There are free train-
ings online and you can save up to
pay for some. You should also culti-
vate a reading culture. Start with a
page a day. Invest in your growth.
6. Great leaders also have mentors.
Pick
a leader you would like to emulate
and reach out.
7. You know the new phrase ‘All na pack-
aging’.
I quite like it. It is about the swag.
Act like you are until you become.
Dress to impress.
In the end, it all comes down to you.
You have to lead yourself to improve
on your performance on the job or
in your personal life. You will discover
that as you sharpen your self-leader-
ship skills, you attract the positives to
your wellbeing, your finances, your
relationships, and in your goals.
Lead yourself every day in every way
to a better life.
my goals?; What is my influence level
in the work place or in my personal
life?; What are my strengths, weak-
nesses, opportunities and threats?; Am
I happy or am I dissatisfied with my
life? Why?
To be great at personal leadership
there are some exercises that you
must consciously engage in. It will
require that you reach within you to
lead yourself from inside out.
