percent rise in October. The annual
core inflation rate edged up to 5.2
percent from 5.1 percent in October,
as cost rose for education and hospi-
tality industry services. Inflation Rate in
Uganda averaged 6.62 percent from
1998 until 2016, reaching an all time
high of 24.50 percent in November of
2011 and a record low of -5.36 per-
cent in November of 2001.
Uganda has substantial natural
resources, including fertile soils, regular
rainfall, small deposits of copper, gold,
and other minerals, and recently dis-
covered and untapped oil. Agriculture
is the most important sector of the
economy, employing over 80% of the
work force. Coffee accounts for the
bulk of export revenues. Oil revenues
and tax collections will become a
larger source of government funding
as oil production and export kicks off
in the near future.
