EDITOR’S VIEW
I was flying recently with some colleagues and trying to put together
my Editor’s view. I wanted to find a word other than ‘new’, to describe
the theme of this edition of the Lion King. I asked two first - class brains
for help. We searched and threw up suggestions until the plane landed
but didn’t find a substitute. The word ‘new’ is the baseline. There is
nothing that depicts newness like ‘new’.
This edition of the Lion King highlights the new in UBA. Our chairman,
Tony Elumelu, reflects the new rhetoric on Africa that’s positive and
bright (
When it Comes to Africa, We Want More,
p.6), just as our new
Group Managing Director/CEO, Kennedy Uzoka, talks about renewing
our pledge to our customers (
GMD’s message
, p.4).
There are several reports that state that the population of Africa is
growing faster than any other continent. Africa’s growing population
is a youthful population. The bulk of the continent’s population will
be the millenials in the next five years we are being told, and UBA is
positioned to embrace this ‘demographic dividend’ as the chairman
refers to it. Read about some of our millenials who are representin’
this demographic (
UBA’s Cool Index on the Rise,
p.14). We get a look into
their minds as we do into the minds of our not-so-young but new ED’s
who reflect youthfulness we rarely see.
Young or old, we are all embarking on a movement of newness. Don’t
miss the new menu at our new canteen at the Head Office, the Melting
Pot (also launched in Ghana). And you must definitely stay tuned to the
new and exciting programmes on REDTV. If you haven’t done so yet,
subscribe today. Go to YouTube and subscribe. It’s free, it’s simple and
it’s just a click away.
See you on the other side!
