Ms. Arunma Oteh, MD Financial Derivatives, Mr. Bismarck Rewane and
a host of other top business leaders on Friday, January 18, 2013 met in
Lagos when the Tony Elumelu Foundation hosted the U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID) Administrator, Dr. Rajiv Shah.
The meeting was part of events lined up for the visiting USAID
Administrator and
designed to highlight new
opportunities for partnerships
that can accelerate
growth and development
in Nigeria. It also signals the
US government’s interest
in transforming the foreign
aid landscape by engaging
private sector partners to
achieve key development
goals.
Mr. Shah and host, Mr.
Elumelu interacted with
young Nigerian students,
entrepreneurs and businesses
leaders, answering candid
questions on the topic of
public-private partnerships
and USAID plans for Nigeria’s
development. They also
participated in roundtable
discussions with several
private sector leaders and
energy sector representatives
to discuss specific ways that
USAID can partner with the
Nigerian private sector.

nterswitch, on Saturday, January 26, 2013
honoured UBA with the ‘Award of Innovation’ to
mark 10 years of Interswitch at an Anniversary
dinner in Lagos.
The award is in appreciation of UBA’s partnership
as one of the pioneering banks to adopt the
Interswitch platform in its banking operations
thereby promoting and enhancing Interswitch’s
decade of innovative banking just as UBA is the first
bank to issue the first debit card to be used on ATM
of other banks. The bank was also involved in the
first ever interbank ATM withdrawal in Nigeria.
Reacting to the Award, Divisional Head, e-banking,
Yinka Adedeji expressed his appreciation at
the gesture from Interswitch in honouring the
bank with the Award. He said the Award has
further reaffirmed UBA’s drive in transforming
the e-banking landscape in Nigeria and further
enhancing the cashless initiative while promoting
its e-banking services to customers of the bank.
The award is a continuation of the accolades the
bank has received in recent times. UBA was also
recently honoured as the bank with the fastest
growing issuer of Verve cards in Nigeria.
