The Lion King | 1
Editor’s Letter
Dear Lions and Lionesses,
Happy New Year colleagues and
welcome to 2013.
We capped the year 2012 on a
resounding note, clinching the ‘Bank of
the Year - Africa’ award. The award was
a befitting testament to the remarkable
financial performance of UBA, following
our spread across Africa in record time
and balance sheet cleaning exercise of
the preceding year.
With the launch of Project Alpha and the
initiatives/targets set for 2013, the bank
has entered another growth phase, to
reclaim the leadership position in the
banking industry. We will meet and
surpass the 2013 targets and it is on this
note that we have chosen the theme,
‘Living Africa’s Global Brand’ for this
edition of the Lion King magazine. Find
out what it takes to live the brand and
play your individual and collective part
in the march to number one position!
UBA has spun off 3 new entities that
are now separate from the bank but
commonly owned by shareholders of
UBA. This is sequel to the adoption of the
monoline commercial banking structure
in line with the new CBN policy. Find out
about these structural changes and how
they affect you.
He is not your typical Chief Finance
Officer (CFO). Young, vibrant and
affable, Ugochukwu Nwaghodoh knows
his onions. Read and be inspired by
the story of our Group CFO who badly
wanted to be a footballer in our section
on ‘Ask the Executive’
Our ‘Country in Focus’ spotlight is again
on Armand Drogba’s Guinea Conakry
as we take you on a journey to the
world’s largest producer of Bauxite.
Check out the beautiful and agricultural
based West African country, including
a ‘News Round Up’ of all the important
events of the last quarter and a lot more
on this edition of the Lion King.
Happy reading!
