n March 6, 2012, The Former GMD/CEO UBA
Plc and Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foun-
dation, Tony Elumelu (MFR); and The Former
British Prime Minister and Patron Africa Governance
Initiative, RT. Hon. Tony Blair, officially launched the
“Blair–Elumelu Fellowship Programme” in Freetown
Sierra Leone.
The aim of the Blair-Elumelu fellowship programme
is to strengthen the private sector’s role in the eco-
nomic transformation of selected African countries,
starting with Sierra Leone and Liberia. It was also
meant to develop the initiative of their governments
to enhance competitiveness, attract and nurture
private investment and move beyond aid.
UBA Sierra Leone was there to lend its support.

he Executive Director, Far North, UBA
Plc, Abdulqadir Bello, accompanied
by Muhtar Saulawa, Regional Director,
Gombe and some Business Managers on
May 2, 2012 donated the sum of N5million
to Taraba State Government. The dona-
tion which was made during a visit to the
Governor of Taraba State of Nigeria, His Ex-
cellency, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, was
aimed at boosting tourism development in
the state.
The Governor in his remarks appreciated
UBA for its enduring support to the govern-
ment of the state. He recounted the N2.5
billion facility granted the state in 2009 for
the development of roads, and the recent
5 billion facility granted the state for infra-
structure development which preceded
the 5 million donation, saying it was be-
cause of these kind gestures of the bank
that he gave directives for the state joint
local government account and other ac-
counts be moved to UBA.
