President of Bukina Faso Plays Host to UBA
Africa Team and Tony Elumelu
Our immediate past GMD/CEO and currently Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr.
Tony Elumelu, has remained very supportive of the institution. He led the UBA
team comprising of Gabriel Edgal, CEO UBA Africa; Alphonse Kadjo, MD/CEO
BIB-UBA and
Ikenna Nnaemeka, Technical Attaché BIB-UBA to pay a courtesy call on the
Burkinabe President, Blaise Compaoré recently in Ouagadougou.
After the visit to the Presidential Villa, Mr. Elumelu was taken on a guided tour
of the office in Burkina Faso and met with the Executive Members of BIB-UBA
and the Board of Directors. He commended the team for the success they have
achieved in the card business and urged that the feat in Burkina Faso be rep-
licated across the group.

At the meeting of members of staff
of UBA Uganda held at the Head
Office on March 3, 2012 and pre-
sided over by the Group Human
Resources Director, Ben Odukwe,
the MD/CEO UBA Uganda, Mr.
Frans Ojielu said that motivation
significantly influences productiv-
ity, and a high level of motivation
results in a higher level of produc-
tivity.
David Mwesige and Michael Sem-
buze Leon both of Information
Technology Department and Jo-
seph Arinaitwe of e-Banking De-
partment were awarded cash gifts
of $100 each. In addition, Michael
Sembuze Leon earned an all-ex-
pense paid one- week, full intern-
ship at the Group Head Office in
Lagos to work with a team of inno-
vators. Williams Mawejje was also
recognized for his contributions
to improving the bank’s various
platforms. The award comes with
a letter of commendation to be is-
sued by HCM.
The Group Director Human Re-
sources, Ben Odukwe applauded
the staff of Information Technology and E- banking who successfully deployed e-
banking solution for the collections of water bills payments in Uganda. The e-water
collections rely on the Advanced Bank Collect developed by Group E- Banking Divi-
sion and supported locally by UBA Uganda E-banking and IT teams.
Odukwe noted the vibrancy of the UBA Uganda staff and encouraged them to give
their very best as UBA remained committed to rewarding performance. He concluded
by noting the benefits of recognizing workers with ‘employee of the month’ or ‘em-
ployee of the quarter’ awards. “Such initiative engenders healthy competition among
members of staff” he said.
