he success starved Super
Eagles of Nigeria threw the
Nigerian Nation into ecstasy
by winning the 2013 African Cup
of Nations (AFCON) after 19
years of drought. Nigeria won
this trophy previously in 1980
and 1994 respectively. The joy
this trophy brought to millions of
Nigerians at home and abroad
cannot be overemphasized, I for
one was elated.
This great triumph in the round
leather game was achieved
by the Nigerian contingent
amidst skepticism on their
competencies from the Nigerian
Media, the Football Authorities
and bulk of the Nigerian
masses. I must admit that I
too had little or no faith in the
team (my sincere apologies).
They were criticized via Social
Media Platforms (Facebook,
Twitter, BBM, etc) and mass /
print media (TV, Radio, and
National Dailies), etc. However,
despite all of this, the team and
the entire technical crew by all
ramifications have proven the
bookmakers and all of us wrong.
As an avid football fan and a
trained marketing professional,
I have tried to identify some
