The warmth of the culture in tennis
world is abundant, so locating tennis
players to compete against, even
as staff or neighbours, is virtually
guaranteed. There are tennis courts
almost walking distances around
your neighbourhood; you can al-
ways locate one either at the sta-
dium, schools, recreation centres, or
neighbourhood parks.
The social and networking aspect of
the game is awesome; you will find
that most athletes that play tennis
are goal oriented individuals who
are driven to succeed. This moti-
vates us, as staff, to develop healthy
competition amongst our peers;
ultimately galvanizing into indus-
try competition that will sustain our
bank as a market leader.
The initial goal is to advance to a
level where you can comfortably
manoeuvre around the tennis court
with ease and maintain confidence
in your game.
Just like a baby, you have to crawl
before you walk, and walk before
you run.
Learning how to play tennis is all
about attitude and commitment;
maintaining a positive attitude, stay-
ing focused and most importantly
practicing consistently.
A tennis match is a competition
played between two, three or four
players. The three most common
match competitions played in ten-
nis are Singles, Doubles, and Mixed
Doubles.
Kindly ensure you take the time to
stretch out and warm up thoroughly
before you start any game of tennis.
This will prevent possible injuries and
also give you time to scout out your
competitor’s strengths and weak-
nesses.
A serve initiates game play. The
moment the tennis ball is served,
the battle to win the first point be-
gins. Tennis players return the tennis
ball back and forth until the point is
played out.
The goal is to win the point by strate-
gic game planning and game play.
Tennis games can last from a few
minutes to several minutes depend-
ing on how competitive the play-
ers are and how many points are
played. It takes a minimum of four
points to play out a game. In order
to win a game, you must win by at
least two points.
The game of Tennis will challenge
you both physically and mentally
especially when you are in the initial
stages of learning how to play ten-
nis. Stay committed, concentrate
on what you are doing and learn at
your own speed.
For a simple start, you can develop
an interest in watching the game of
tennis; it’s not all about the premier-
ship, or NBA. Get interested in World
Tennis Association (WTA) competi-
tions; the US Open, French Open,
Wimbledon Championship, Rome
Masters and the Australian Open.
Tennis is an intelligent sport. If you
desire to win on the job, at home,
or in life; tennis is one sure way to
achieve this. Your family, friends and
colleagues can all participate either
as players or spectators; you really
have no time lost.
Rather than just bend it like a Beck-
ham, try also serving like Serena
and Nadal; you will be on a path
to achieving a healthy work life bal-
ance.
See you in the next edition.
