Magazines like ‘Harvard Business
Review’ and ‘Times’ also come
in very handy for me. ‘The First
90 days’ and ‘Your Next Move’
by Michael Watkins were books
that were really useful to me at
a time when I was joining the
institution because it talks about
critical success strategies and
provides a powerful framework
that enables new leaders to
take charge quickly at all levels, I
recommend this book to anyone
who is changing job or transiting
in an organization.
LK: What has been your worst and
disappointing moment in UBA
?
EE:
My first 3 months of assumption
of duty were quite frustrating as I
was still struggling to settle in and
get a hang of how things work in
the midst of high expectations.
My drive to get things done
quickly made it feel like I was
being slowed down, but as time
went on; I was able to better
understand how things worked.
LK: How do you relax outside of
work?
EE:
I love working out to keep
healthy and fit. I miss my gym
in Lagos a lot. Insecurity in this
part of the country has made
it difficult for me to engage
in gym activities down here
especially after working hours
and weekends. I also relax by
spending quality time with my
family especially my adorable
daughter.
LK: As a married woman, a
career and goal driven lady; how
do you balance the competing
demands of work and family life?
EE:
Truthfully, I have not done well
in this regards and there’s still a lot
to be done as the balance skews
more to work. But my advice is
that we must strike and maintain
a balance at all times.
LK: Any message for younger
bankers
?
EE:
Frommy personal experience,
there is no shortcut to the top
as nothing good comes easy.
They should strive to develop
themselves, use information as
a tool to drive their business, be
very professional, goal-oriented
learning always to know what to
do and why it should be done
– competence and character.
Above all they should strive and
maintain a healthy work life
balance.
