UBA Cameroon is Bank
of the Year
Our Bank has continued to garner laurels
and awards on account of its innovation
and exemplary performance. UBA Camer-
oon was Wednesday November 30, 2011
named Bank of the Year.
UBA Cameroon was adjudged ‘Bank of the
Year’ at the 2011 Banker Awards ceremo-
ny organized by The Banker Magazine;
a publication of the Financial Times; the
world leading financial newspaper.
The award celebrates those banks that
have risen to the prevailing challenges in
the financial industry, through innovation
and economic efficiency. Witnessed by
Central Bank Governors, leading bankers
and Finance Ministers from several Afri-
can countries and other parts of the world,
UBA Cameroon emerged winner ahead
of other notable banks in the country in-
cluding Union Bank of Cameroon, Citibank
and Ecobank, through a highly com-
petitive voting process by global industry
leaders. According to The Banker Maga-
zine, UBA Cameroon clinched the top po-
sition in recognition of its commitment to
supporting the growth and development
of the Cameroonian economy especially
by financing large ticket transactions for
corporate customers, thus stimulating eco-
nomic activities.
Receiving the award, Mr. Georges Wega,
MD/CEO, UBA Cameroon, said the bank in
its three years of operation has supported
Small and Medium Enterprises through
needs-based financing and assisting retail
customers through innovative electronic
solutions. “In demonstration of our capabil-
ity for big ticket transactions, we recently
acted as co-arranger to the 5-year $400m
government bond which was oversub-
scribed” Wega stated.
UBA Ghana Launches
Eduportal at Regent
University
UBA Ghana recently launched the Edupor-
tal software at the Regent University.
Speaking during the launch, the Deputy
Managing Director of UBA Ghana, Daniel
Addo, emphasised that “The cumbersome
nature of paperwork associated with stu-
dent information management, the ever
increasing student population and the
need to ensure timeliness and efficiency
in service delivery in a modern day edu-
cational institution makes it imperative for
a robust automation system that manages
the yearly increase in student turn-over
and oversees administrative and academ-
ic processes in a seamless manner.”
According to him, UBA Eduportal enhances
administrative efficiency by cutting down
cost while increasing productive output,
adding that the portal was designed with
the entire academic community in mind.
“It provides a seamless interactive learning
environment, creating a smooth and reli-
able interface between students and staff
and the general public.”
Prof Kingsley Larbi, President and CEO of
the university observed that the institution
is aiming to become a world-class univer-
sity within the next 10 years and it is “im-
perative that all stakeholders continue to
strive towards the pursuit of what is con-
sidered best practices within the academic
world.”
The Eduportal system is a flagship product
developed by the UBA Group for tertiary
institutions, which has been rolled out for
many universities in Nigeria and other
countries. Regent University is the first uni-
versity in Ghana to sign on the Eduportal
system.
